I know the Wachowski's seem to be the scourge of Directors, but can anybody tell me why ie. what where their problems with the Matrix sequels (if not the first as well)
Here are my theories on how they could've been better.
1)The first movie cost $60m, how about they were given $70 to make Reloaded, and the same amount they were gievn to make Revolution.s With reloaded, they would've had to cut out some of the Burly Brawl (and the shit CGI) and some other things, and make it a whole more realistic. Then, the blow from Revolutions (which a lot of people don't like) would've been softer, if Reloaded was better than the first.
2)Maybe if they wouldn't have made any sequels at all.
3)Sort of like 1)-Maybe just cut out a lot of the effects, therefore cutting down some of the scenes and just using a lot of wire work.
And what next for them (if there are any fans of the Bros here?)
I heard that maybe they were doing a Metal gear Solid movie with Hugh Jackman (after he finishes Van Helsing)

i dont know a single thing about these movies but my guess is they spent about 2 years mulling over ideas for the matrix and about a year writing it. They then spent a year not only mulling over, but also writing, not just the one movie, but the two...
add to that the fact sequels never match up to the originals becos all the good ideas have been used already.
add to that the bullet time effects became terribly cliche a year before the sequels even came out
it all adds up to make a crap movie.
But ive not seen the sequels so i cant really comment. Other than i saw the trailer for the 3rd one and i cringed so much at how bad it looked. That moment where Kenua says in the most wooden way "it ends tonight" or words to that effect, god that makes me cringe in my seat its that bad.

No, 'it ends tonight' was very cool for me, even though Keanu is an awful actor, I believe it helps to make you believe in the character.
I was thinking the other day about the other choices. Johnny Depp, too crazy, can't see him being restarined. will Smith, the big grin would not do it for me. Di Caprio, you would never believe that he was tough. Macgregor could've worked, but I don't know whether he would be as committed to learn the Martial arts. I'd say he takes him far too seriously fo that (as his opinions on Star Wars have shown)
However, I think that the best choice would've been Jake Gyllenhall, but The Matrix came along five years too fast. But if it's put like that, then by the time The Matrix came around it may have been too cliche, so there's no way to win. I would say that with budget constraints, Depp would've been the best choice (he comes cheap) but looking for an iconic character with a good PHYSICAL performance, I would say that the Wachowski's hit the nail on the head with Keanu.

Shit, just remembered Edard Scissorhands. Still think that Reeves is more believable in the role (damn, I'd never thought that Keanue Reeves and believable would end up in the same sentence)
What about Trinity. In the first movie I thought Carrie-Anne was good, in the 2nd and 3rd she was awfully wooden. Gina Gershon would've been better (a great actress and nimble too)
Lawrence Fishuburne was great for Morpheus, better than Val Kilmer anyways.

Hey there.
My favorite Watchoski movie is Bound. I think it's a fantastic debut. I love the movie. As for the Matrix. I like all three about the same. Non of them blew me away. But I enjoyed all three.
"You never know... they might get round to making Carnivore?"
God I hope not. TERRIBLE screenplay. Their Assassins script was a great read though. They also adapted Plastic Man and V for Vendetta. Both of which have had piss poor reviews.
Anyway. I hope they do something on a smaller scale next. Something like Bound. Although I remember talk of them doing a movie set in Antarctica about ZOMBIES a while back.
Despin out.
